Here are some helpful tips on salon business cards and where to get good ones at very cheap prices…
Hair styling and beauty is really an artistic profession, as much so as that of a painter or sculptor. And that said, your clients really expect you to have an innate sense of style and good taste. There can be nothing more disastrous, for example, than for a hairstylist to hand out salon business cards that are printed in black and white, stark, dreary, and looking like something a lawyer’s office would throw away. It would be a complete disaster. Read the rest of this entry »

Salon promotional ideas are as numerous as the grains of sand on Stintson Beach (that’s a great beach here in Northern California).
Before I give you a few promotional ideas to consider I have some advice for you:
Use multiple media and take massive action!
Multiple media means that your salon promotional ideas should NOT be based upon one or two media. For example, lets say you have a Halloween promotion. Most salons would have an in house flyer, and then get their employees to either put flyers on cars or go around the neighborhood with them. Maybe they will even have a coupon distributed in a the local coupon book, Val Pak, or Money Mailer.
Massive Action means to go out and use as many free and paid channels to get your offer out to. Read the rest of this entry »

Salon Marketing Internet Strategy and getting systematized: I’ll Make It Simple For Now…
Internet marketing has now become more important than offline direct mail, newspaper, yellow page, and coupon advertising. Though it’s important to keep those marketing channels on (and others as well) because they are still very effective and will be for many years to come. I digress…
Salon internet marketing should be one of your main focuses because that is where people are looking for salon services (mobile as well, but that’s for a future article). So if you are not testing or implementing a salon marketing internet strategy, even a simple one, then you are leaving money on the table. Read the rest of this entry »

I have tested hundreds of display ads and coupons in magazines, coupon books, newspapers, and even more online.
We generate more leads that we can handle online, and get dozens of clients from our offline salon marketing and coupons.
One day a new client was talking with me about marketing…
He was wealthy. And had strong opinions. But what was amusing to me was the what he said in regards to my advertising: “I don’t respond to those kinds of advertisements”.
He’s talking about the ads that sometimes look more like articles. You know, the ones that have a headline, compelling copy, and good offer and call to action…
But as he was telling me this, he was giving me his credit card!
This was not the first time this has come up.
I have dozens of stories like that. But I also get lots of compliments as well. Those are few and far between, and they are nice. But it’s results that matter…not opinions. Not even what clients, friends, and family ‘tell’ you.
So lets get back to the subject line of my email…
Do your wealthy clients use coupons?
Yes?
No?
When I asked this question of several business owners their answer was 90% ‘No’. “They don’t need to, they have money and they like to spend it” they said. But they are dead wrong…
The answer is ‘Yes’. They do, and they are doing it more than ever. Even the wealthy don’t want to pass up on a good deal or let money burn in their pocket…
This is nothing new to those of us who study direct response marketing and online marketing.
But the bottom line here is you can’t let your or your friends opinions get in the way of finding the truth and using the truth to get results.

Coming up with salon package ideas can be a challenge if you don’t know where to start. But let me make is easier for you.
A salon package is much more appealing when the difference in price of a single service versus buying a package of services is made obvious. As a result, upselling a customer to a larger package is much easier.
OK, so that is pretty obvious to most salon owners and managers. Here’s a salon package idea to test… Read the rest of this entry »
